There is a reason why people think that formal or posed photographs are stiff: Most of them are! I have surfed the net and found dozens of examples of formal portraits in which there is little emotion.
Occasionally, when I photograph a large group of ten or more, lively and expressive images fade. It can take a minute or two to get everyone posed so that they look good. But, this photograph is so typical of my formal pictures - it's fun. Molly and her bride's maids clearly like each other and are having a great time at the wedding, even during the photography!
